Position SummaryThe Prison Education Specialist will serve as a liaison between Sinclair Community College and the correctional facility warden, educational staff, and administration at the respective facilities, engage with the needs and missions of the program, help to develop and implement certificate programs, and orient staff and instructional faculty to teaching in a correctional setting and working with the diverse needs of incarcerated adult learners and correctional facility staff.This position pays $27.23/hour (up to 28 hours per week).Principal AccountabilitiesServe as a liaison between Sinclair Community College and the correctional facility warden, educational staff, and administration at the respective site(s)Assess instructional needs and opportunities within and specific to the respective site(s)Collaborate to develop and implement certificate programs with SCC department chairpersons and deans to meet the incarcerated person's post-secondary educational needs in correctional settingsOrient staff and instructional faculty to teaching in a correctional setting and working with the diverse needs of incarcerated adult learners and correctional staffOversee security clearance process and assist in resolving instructor needs when neededSupervise the assistant coordinator in handling day-to-day operational activitiesOversee support services for incarcerated adult learners such as placement testing, academic advising, registration, textbooks, tutoring, and attendanceEnsure all policies and regulations of the respective site(s), the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), and SCC are followed and enforcedMaintain records that conform to DRC and SCCProvide accurate and on-time reports to the respective site(s), SCC, and DRCThis position is also responsible for overseeing all facilities and equipment related to the delivery of SCC programs at the respective site(s) to ensure that applicable policies of SCC and DRC are followed, most particularly security. This position is in continual contact with the Director of Advanced Job Training.RequirementsMinimum of a Bachelor's degree requiredMinimum of 3 years professional work experience in a correctional, law enforcement, or higher education setting required; previous work experience in a supervisory role and/or an educational setting preferredAbility to exercise leadership for education program development in the unique and complex environment of a correctional facility requiredCurrent working knowledge of and successful professional experience working within the criminal justice system requiredProfessional communication skills to include but not limited to oral and written requiredAbility to successfully work with diverse constituents, including college faculty and administrators as well as inmates and staff in correctional facilitiesAbility to supervise staff and manage resource and operations effectively and efficiently requiredAbility to work on multiple tasks simultaneously while providing great attention to detail while meeting all prescribed deadlines requiredCurrent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn necessary college related databases requiredAbility to pass a DRC background check requiredPDN-992339c0-7b74-4e18-b83f-3850439aa755
