Job Description:
SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Reports to: Engineering Operations Manager
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Creates concepts, designs, details and engineering simulations for
special automated equipment, tooling, dies, molds and fixtures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Application of design techniques utilizing knowledge of the
following mechanical elements:
o Powered prime movers (cylinders, grippers, rotary actuators,
etc.)
o Conveyors & material handling
o Transmission components (gearboxes, drives, bearings, etc.)
o Vision systems
o Electrical devices (motors, linear actuators, robots, etc.)
o Electrical sensors (laser, inductive field, sonic, etc.)
o Electrical instruments (LVDT's, load cells, etc.)
Application of design expertise in the follow specific areas
preferred:
o Synchronous automation
o Non-Synchronous automation
o Manual and lean equipment
o Hydraulic & manual workholding fixtures
o Milling, turning, & gaging workholding fixtures
o Heat exchanger core assembly equipment
o Crimping equipment & dies
o Molds & corrugation equipment
o Gages
o Multi-station systems
o Functional test equipment
o Standalone equipment
Utilize engineering acumen in the following disciplines:
o GD&T dimensioning techniques
o Engineering technologies including safety & ergonomics
o Industrial engineering techniques
o Manufacturing technologies
o Controls engineering techniques
o Design innovation using creativity
--- Study requirements and collaborate with project stakeholders to
satisfy design-related challenges, including dimensional, service,
manufacturing, and cost and schedule issues.
--- Create design concepts utilizing preliminary sketches &
layouts.
--- Create detail drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks &
DraftSight).
--- Engage in design confirmation activities, including
simulations, FEA & animations.
--- Modify designs to improve performance.
--- Select purchased components to incorporate into designs.
--- Create technical documentation for equipment operation designed
for instruction manuals as required.
--- Redline & revise drawings.
--- Create sequence of events and powered elements charts.
--- Engage in debug and development activities.
--- Work within quality system parameters as required.
--- Communicate with team members and managers to receive
instructions and coordinate activities.
--- Utilize ERP system (Epicor).
--- Engage in assisting junior or mid-level designers in their
development of engineering skills while partnering on projects.
--- Assume a lead designer role on projects, coordinating and
leading multiple designers simultaneously.
--- Engage in continuous improvement activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED)
--- Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and
supporting experience
--- Vocational education and supporting experience
--- Completion of apprenticeship in engineering and manufacturing
environment
--- Hands-on experience in manufacturing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED)
--- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
field
--- 10 years experience as Mechanical Engineering Designer
--- 5 years experience working in manufacturing environment
--- Strong written and verbal communication skills
--- Strong organizational skills
WORKING CONDITIONS
--- Typical office environment. May work in the facility or
remotely.

--- Occasional work-related travel required
