Development Engineer PRISM is a newly formed base business function
within the Ethicon Endo-Surgery (EES) Supply Chain organization
with the goal of managing the E2E Cost of Goods Sold for the
handheld EndoMechanical and Energy business. The primary goal of
the PRISM program is to identify, prioritize and implement Cost
Improvement Project (CIP) opportunities across the Ethicon
Endo-Surgery supply chain. The Staff Component Development Engineer
is a key member of our Prism Supply Chain Team, having
responsibility of supporting multiple complex engineering design
change projects that reduce the cost of direct purchased materials.
Projects will span all Ethicon Endo-Surgery handheld instrument
product portfolios with an emphasis on highly engineered metal and
plastic components. The candidate will have significant experience
working closely with external suppliers, leading the development of
components from initial tooling concepts and prototypes to full
production tooling and parts that meets DFM, DFA, and engineering
design specifications. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with
machining, forming, coining, and metal injection molding of metal
components is required. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with
engineered plastic injection molded components is highly desired.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with component qualification
and validation is required. A firm understanding and application of
the Ethicon Endo-Surgery Component Development roadmap is
preferred. First hand application of the Ethicon Endo-Surgery
G10002 component qualification process is highly desired. This
position requires building close and collaborative partnerships
both within J&J and with external suppliers. Inside partnership
includes the Prism R&D Design Team, J&J MedTech
Source/Procurement organization regarding supplier selection and
costing models, EES Lifecycle Product Focus Teams, and the EES
Independencia manufacturing site for support of design change
projects. External partnerships include Jabil Torres and Jabil Baja
manufacturing sites as well as J&J component suppliers around
the world. Ideally the candidate will be knowledgeable with the EES
CP0150 Design Change Process. Candidates should be self-motivated,
independent and have an eagerness to learn and work as a team, and
a desire to thrive in a dynamic environment. Critical to this role
is the ability to independently resolve difficult project
challenges and communicate broadly and accurately across the PRISM
supply chain team, internal J&J partners, and external
partners. Key Responsibilities: --- EES Prism component development
lead of metal and plastic components across the J&J world-wide
supplier base. --- Partners closely with Prism R&D design
engineers and EES Life Cycle Engineering to understand component
design intent, DFM/DFA. --- Partners with external suppliers
regarding tooling strategy and leading component development
activities to ensure final production component(s) meet DFM, DFA,
and design specifications. --- A key partner to Prism Project Leads
as the DRI for the technical aspects of component development with
external suppliers. Key contributor to component costing models,
project schedule development, and Expense/Capital budgets. ---
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with machining, forming,
coining, and metal injection molding of metal components is
required. --- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with engineered
plastic injection molded components is highly desired. --- Leads
external supplier engagement regarding component development
activities. --- Assists/Owns EES G10002 component qualification
deliverables (CRR, PFMEA, FAI, Cap Studies). Coordinates & approves
G10002 component validation deliverables and activities.
