Position Summary:

Join UD Athletics department as the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Program (Division I), where we are committed to the overall wellbeing and success of faculty, staff and student athletes. This is a full time benefit eligible position that offers health, dental and vision insurance, retirement, disability, tuition assistance, vacation/sick accrual and holiday pay.

The director of track & field and cross country programs is responsible for all aspects of these three teams. The director serves as leader and head coach and with the aid of the assistant coaches, will primarily instruct, train and coach student athletes about the sports and skills required and to be maintained for Division I competition. The coach will also instruct student athletes for purposes of academic, social development, compliance requirements, and safety and health considerations. The director/head coach will recruit quality student athletes and engage in strategic leadership, addressing matters such as team composition, competition strategies, and peak performance. The director/head coach will perform additional duties related to coaching, as needed (e.g., compliance education, budget management, equipment procurement, fundraising and other duties). The candidate shall comply with the published constitution, bylaws, interpretations, rules or regulations of the NCAA, Atlantic 1 Conference or the University. This is a full time, 12 month position with full benefits. This position will require some travel and many evening, weekend and some holiday hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience as a successful track and field and cross country coach
- Successful experience recruiting, developing and retaining quality student athletes from diverse backgrounds
- Expertise in one or more track and field event areas
- Excellent and effective written communication skills
- A valid driver's license with a low risk driving record and the ability to successfully be insured by the university
- A strong commitment to adhering to institutional, conference and NCAA policies, rules, and regulations
- A strong commitment to safety and student athlete wellbeing

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

- Master's degree
- Experience as a track/running coach at the collegiate level with student athletes from diverse backgrounds
- Advanced training in one or more track and field event areas
- Leadership/management experience/training
- History of building successful teams at the conference level and developing exceptionally competitive individual student-athletes
- Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate the ability to project a positive image of the program and University as well as a dedication to academics and personal development of student athletes

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
