Odyssey Systems has an exciting new opportunity for a Life Scientist II position supporting the NAMRU-D Environmental Health Effects Research Lab. Duties include, but not limited to:

The contractor will assist with cell-based (animal and human) research studies on environmental and occupational exposures in order to identify health effects before health and operational performance is compromised in the warfighter. Cell-based studies include the use of in-vitro models, bacterial systems and molecular assays to address toxic effects and mechanisms. Animal studies may include, but are not limited to exposures via gavage, in drinking water, in feed, intravenously, intraperitoneal, intratracheal, whole-body inhalation, and nose-only inhalation. Human studies may include inhalation exposure.

These research efforts will require the collection and analysis of data, computer programming, statistical analysis, and scientific reporting. As an integral portion of these research activities, the contractor shall be expected to assist with the performance of routine set-up and maintenance of critical devices at NAMRU-D, to include the preparation of devices for specific research protocols, operation of devices during testing and data collection, routine preventive maintenance of devices, data collection and recording from research conducted on the devices. These devices include various behavioral, physiologic and medical monitoring equipment, in vivo inhalation exposure systems, in vitro cell culture systems, analytical equipment for monitoring chemicals in animal tissues, and various exposure media (e.g., air, water, and feed).

Candidates shall assume an increased amount of responsibility, independence, and judgment and perform the following duties:

Work in collaboration with military and civilian researchers to design and conduct research in the areas of warfighter health and performance.
Coordinate research data amongst contractor personnel and perform statistical analyses. Any coordination between the Government and contract personnel must be approved by the COR.
Coordinate the activities of research assistants (contractor personnel) and provide training, as necessary.
Collaborate with principal investigators (PIs) and other contractor research personnel on technical reports, abstracts, journal articles, and conference presentations. The aforementioned documents must be reviewed and approved by the Government.
Report findings, outcomes, and recommendations to the fleet through formal meetings, presentations, briefings, and publications. The aforementioned documents must be reviewed and approved by the Government.

Minimum Qualifications:

BA or BS (4 years) or MA or MS Degree (2 years) in an appropriate field of research, including but not limited to toxicology, biology, environmental health, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, and biomedical sciences
US Citizenship
Ability to Obtain Clearance
