Job Description:


  • Assist appropriate patients and families to explore options for financial assistance for medical services with referral to Social Services when appropriate
  • Complete appropriate financial assistance forms to aid patients with medication costs
  • Follow up with appropriate patients and families for financial assistance needs
  • Attends New Patient Conference meeting in conjunction with the patient's Care Team
  • Maintain professional relationships and convey relevant information to other members of the healthcare team within facility and any applicable referral agencies
  • Obtain necessary insurance information from patients. Answer questions or directs patients to appropriate staff members for questions regarding insurance, billing, payment, and/or collection arrangements.
  • Meet with patients to discuss estimated costs of therapies.
  • Work closely with patients and Patient Financial Services (PFS) to resolve account balance issues and establish payment plans
  • Identifies unique situations to provide patients additional assistance as needed, such as out of network insurance, uncovered services, discounts, financial assistance, etc. Provide patient with opportunities to participate in pricing programs for out of pocket expenses to ensure payment of services.
  • Obtains prior insurance authorization as needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications
    Education Required: High school education or equivalent, public health setting with one of a combination of the following: patient finance, insurance benefits, financial assistance programs, public health, social servies, or other community based background, medical terminology

    Education Preferred: Associates degree in Business Management or related field preferred

    Experience Required: Minimum two years' experience in health related field

    Experience Preferred: Awareness of philosophy of care as it relates to Patient Financial Services

    Other: ACCC (Association of Community Cancer Centers) Financial Advocacy Boot Camp; within 1 year of employment
