Job Description:

The Labor Relations Representative / Sr. Labor Relations Representative is responsible for investigating complaints of discrimination and harassment, administering *MAHLE standards of conduct*, policies and procedures, implementing progressive discipline across bargaining unit, conducting necessary employee relations training sessions, and interpreting collective bargaining agreements. The position acts as a liaison between employees and the management team.


- Investigate employee grievances and disciplinary issues.

- Conduct thorough investigations of complaints, which consist of interviewing parties and witnesses, and gathering evidence as necessary.

- Prepare investigative reports with analysis, findings, and recommended disciplinary or corrective actions.

- Serve as a representative at hearings, grievances, and meetings regarding labor relations matters.

- Review collective bargaining agreements, and contribute to contract negotiations.

- Determine the appropriateness of proposed disciplinary action to address employee misconduct, and oversee the disciplinary process to ensure compliance with policies, federal, state, and local laws and/or regulations.

- Advise management and union officials in development, application, and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices.

- Conduct training sessions on employment related matters, including discipline, personnel policies, mandated work rules, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEO) and compliance with collective bargaining agreements.

- Track action taken regarding grievances, arbitration, and mediation of cases.

- All other duties and projects as assigned.


- Bachelor's degree in Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Human Resources Management or related field from an accredited four-year college or university preferred, or equivalent related experience

- Entry Level (Career Band Level 5) typically requires a minimum of 0+ years previous or related experience

- Intermediate Level (Career Band Level 6) typically requires a minimum of 3+ years previous or related experience

- Senior Level (Career Band Level 7) typically requires a minimum of 7+ years previous or related experience

- Ability to identify and solve problems, to work within deadlines with a high attention to detail, and to work independently in a fast paced, dynamic environment

- Strong business acumen and the ability to influence and develop strong working relationships with all levels of employees, including human resources colleagues and senior level management and/or executives

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation delivery

- Must have broad, basic understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws

- Advanced computer skills, especially in MS Office

- HRIS experience is required, SAP experience preferred

- Knowledge of the concepts of collective bargaining and the grievance process

- Knowledge and experience in conducting investigations and the ability to assess evidence and arrive at a fair conclusion in accordance with policies, work rules, and applicable laws


Must be fluent in English. Working-level second language skills is a plus. Able to write routine reports and correspondence. Able to communicate effectively with peers, managers, and directors, and to present to groups of customers or employees of the organization. Values and considers the perspectives and backgrounds of all parties.
