*POSTION: * *School Resource Officer*

*REPORTS TO: * SRO Supervisor


Provide law enforcement and police services to the school and school grounds - primarily Intermediate Schools and High School.

Be present, on time and ready to work.

Enforce state and local laws and ordinances.

Make appropriate referrals to juvenile authorities or other governmental agencies.

Work with school administration to investigate allegations of criminal incidents per police department policies and procedures.

Work to prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact and positive relationships with students.

Work with students and staff to prevent crime and victimization and to create and promote an environment for proactive law enforcement.

Assist and advise in security matters regarding school district policies.

Work with school administration to communicate and collaborate with social services and other agencies as it relates to juvenile issues, probation, truancy and child protection.

Supervise students and patrol the halls, restrooms, unused classrooms and other areas inside the building, entrances and exits, and school parking lots.

Recruit and train community volunteers to promote school safety during instructional and non- instructional times, passing periods, the end of the school day and during after school events.

Maintain radio and/or intercom or phone communication with the school office and appropriate administrative personnel.

Assist school personnel in the event of an emergency.

Provide immediate and direct linkage for resolution of criminal activity amongst juveniles.

Work with school site administrators in controlling unauthorized presence and movement of students and non-students.

Be visible within the school community. Attend and participate in school functions as directed by school administration.

Serve as an instructor of law related to education by working closely with teachers in customizing and designing instruction to address specific law related issues.

Serve as part of the multidisciplinary team for providing support to students.

Other duties as assigned by the building principal or Chief Operations Officer.

Certified Law Enforcement Officer or eligible to become re-certified.

Certified Law Enforcement Officer or eligible to become re-certified.

Good oral and written communications skills to converse with school staff, parents and students.

Be able to determine severity of circumstances.
Good Conflict Resolution skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends and overtime as needed.
