Job Summary and Primary Responsibilities



The Microbiologist role located in Dayton, OH will coordinate testing using common biological, (microbiological testing, cell culture, etc.), analytical chemical (titration, wet chemistry, etc.), and mechanical (stress /strain) techniques to conduct experiments for product release and validation protocols. The Microbiologist will record and tabulate testing and monitoring data, write reports of experiments conducted, support projects as needed and contribute to the daily requirements of the Microbiology team. The successful candidate will also assign and conduct multiple lines of testing and review documents for accuracy and completeness.

• Assist with the maintenance and calibration of laboratory and metrology equipment.
  
  
• Testing of raw material, In-process and finished product samples to include bioburden, bacterial endotoxin and sterility.
  
  
• Perform microbial identifications, evaluating and interpreting results to identify objectionable organisms from environmental monitoring and product testing.
  
  
• Preparation and maintenance of cell lines and bacterial cultures, including cryopreservation and thawing.
  
  
• Preparation of reagents and media to support testing.
  
  
• Perform data entry and utilize reports to identify adverse trends.
  
  
• General Laboratory Maintenance and support of laboratory inventory needs.
  
  
• Accurately receive and prepare samples for testing, and coordinate shipping where required.
  
  
• Compile data and prepare reports from analytical testing for review
  
  
• Maintain logs for monitoring of controlled rooms, incubators and freezers
  
  
• Evaluate and identify any potential problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
  
  
• Perform mechanical testing of product and packaging equipment as well as troubleshooting.
  
  
• Accurate and reliable record keeping, including database management, batch records, notebooks and all pertinent documentation utilizing Good Documentation Procedures.
  
  
• Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required.
  
  
• Communicate technical details effectively with leadership.
  
  
• Mentor and train other lab technicians as needed.

  • Possesses the ability to read and interpret technical and engineering standards, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
    
    
  • Proficient and accurate in MS Office applications, Adobe, Acrobat, and Visio
    
    
  • Able to apply concepts of algebra and geometry, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion.
    
    
  • Solid critical thinking and analytical skills
    
    
  • Perform duties in compliance with applicable FDA and state regulations as well as standards including, but not limited to, ISO 17025
    
    
    
    
    
    Education and Experience
    
    Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, or an Associates degree in related field and 2+ years of relevant work experience.
    
    Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or related field preferred
    
    Associates degree in related field and equivalent work experience may be considered
    
    Experience in clean room sterilization in a pharma or medical device facility preferred
