Job Description:
Position SummaryThe Department of Public Safety and Sinclair
Police serve the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week providing
emergency services, responding to criminal and non-criminal
incidents, providing escorts to your vehicle or assisting in
finding a lost item. Personnel are dedicated to providing the very
highest quality service to our college community, including
students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campuses.Dispatchers
may be the first to become aware of emergency situations that will
require special attention from the Department of Public Safety.
Dispatchers are responsible for processing information related to
calls for service and sending the resources necessary to resolve
the issue. They must be well versed in departmental procedures so
that compliance with established mandates can be maintained,
thereby avoiding sanctions from governing bodies, such as the U. S.
Department of Education.The pay rate for this position is $18.23
per hour.Principal AccountabilitiesMust evaluate all requests
received by and from the public, assign and dispatch an officer to
respond to the request, and possesses the ability to differentiate
and prioritize what they hearResponsible for monitoring all
emergency equipment located within the communication center and
utilize emergency equipment when needed, systems include Automated
Alarms, Access Control System, Fire system, surveillance camera
systems, blue light emergency intercoms, radio and telephone
recording devices, emergency wall telephones, emergency radio
notification radio and an emergency evacuation intercom systemMust
maintain an electronic daily log based on dispatched activity in
which accuracy is essentialDocument and maintain records in regards
to activities of the Public Safety departmentThis position operates
individually and is accountable for decision-making within the
dispatcher positionSpecialized equipment is issued to the officers
and recorded by the dispatcherTrain officers and part-time
personnel to effectively and efficiently operate the communications
centerRequirementsMinimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
requiredMinimum of 1 year work experience in a customer service
related position requiredPolice dispatch and call evaluator work
experience preferredLEADS State Certification training to operate
the LEADS which is a terminal interface to LEADS system preferred;
training will be provided for this database if neededAbility to
learn the operation of the Simplex alarm system, Siemens fire
system, Datatel, JusticeWeb, MIS, OHLEG and Milestone systems
requiredComputer operation and keyboarding skills to prepare daily
activity logs requiredAbility to extract pertinent information from
face-to-face interactions and via phone requiredExcellent
interpersonal and communication skills for public interaction
requiredAbility to manage multiple priorities, prioritize; and
exercise good judgment in emergencies requiredWilling to work all
types of shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays
