Senior Director of Device Portfolio Insights serves as enterprise
owner of device portfolio strategy, investment prioritization, and
long-range value creation. This role orchestrates cross-functional
integration across R&D, Clinical, Therapeutic Areas,
Commercial, Finance, and Digital to drive portfolio decisions that
maximize strategic and financial return. This leader provides
oversight of portfolio health, prioritization, and governance while
ensuring integration between drug delivery devices and Lilly's
clinical pipeline. Serving as the central hub for portfolio
intelligence, this role drives resource allocation, investment
optimization, and AI-enabled decision support. The position
requires sophisticated analytical capabilities and the ability to
synthesize complex information into actionable insights that guide
executive decision-making. Responsibilities: Strategic Mandate and
Enterprise Ownership Develop and maintain a comprehensive,
integrated view of the device development portfolio spanning drug
delivery pre-clinical & clinical research, device innovation,
development, and commercialization projects, programs, and
initiatives under device development Ensure seamless integration
between drug delivery device development and Lilly's clinical
molecule pipeline across all therapeutic areas Support annual
portfolio strategic planning processes in collaboration with device
development leadership Use market analysis, competitive
intelligence, and technology assessments to inform portfolio
strategy Identify whitespace opportunities and recommend new
investment areas. Support build vs. buy vs. partner analyses for
delivery system capabilities Cross?Functional Orchestration
Leverage deep portfolio knowledge and financial expertise to
optimize investment strategies at both project and portfolio levels
Partner with Finance and PPM/CMC PM teams to develop accurate cost
models, forecasts, and business cases for drug delivery system
initiatives Track and report on portfolio expenditures, variance
analysis, productivity, and return on investment metrics Support
business case development for new initiatives and portfolio
prioritization decisions Develop and update device development
archetypes and support disease state benchmarking activities
Decision-Focused Portfolio Intelligence Develop, maintain, and
continuously enhance the device development portfolio dashboard to
support data-driven decision-making Establish key performance
indicators (KPIs) and metrics that provide meaningful insights into
portfolio health, progress, and value realization Create
visualizations and reporting tools that enable leadership to
quickly assess portfolio status, risks, and opportunities Implement
predictive analytics and modeling capabilities to forecast
portfolio outcomes Artificial Intelligence and Decision Science
Leadership Champion use of decision science, data science, and AI
applications in device development business intelligence to improve
portfolio operations Deploy predictive analytics and decision
augmentation tools to enhance portfolio forecasting, risk
assessment, scenario planning, and opportunity identification
Identify resource constraints, bottlenecks, and capability gaps;
recommend solutions Monitor resource utilization metrics and drive
continuous improvement in capacity management Forward?Looking
Portfolio Deployment Ensure clear and consistent communication of
portfolio status, insights, and recommendations to device
development leadership and cross-functional stakeholders Facilitate
regular portfolio communication forums to share insights, trends,
and priority shifts Identify, assess, and communicate
portfolio-level risks, dependencies, and integration challenges.
Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans for
high-impact portfolio risks Ensure transparent escalation of
critical issues requiring leadership attention or intervention
Build strong relationships with therapeutic area leaders, clinical
development teams, and commercial stakeholders Translate complex
portfolio data into compelling narratives for executive audiences
Serve as Strategic Portfolio leader Prepare portfolio materials for
governance reviews, decision forums, and executive leadership
meetings Ensure governance readiness by maintaining current,
accurate data on milestones, deliverables, risks, and dependencies
Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on portfolio strategy and
investment decisions Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in
relevant discipline (Business, Engineering, Life Sciences, Data
Science, Operations Research) with a minimum of 15 years of
experience in pharmaceutical and medical device R&D, portfolio
management, strategy, or related functions Proven track record
managing complex, multi-million-dollar portfolios with
cross-functional dependencies Significant experience with drug
delivery systems, medical devices, or combination products
Demonstrated experience in resource management and capacity
planning for R&D organizations Experience with pharmaceutical
governance processes and investment decision-making Strong
background in financial analysis, business case development, and
investment optimization Additional Preferences: Advanced degree
(MBA, MS, PhD) in relevant discipline (Business, Engineering, Life
Sciences, Data Science, Operations Research) with a minimum of 10
years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical and medical
device R&D, portfolio management, strategy, or related
functions Deep knowledge of portfolio management principles,
frameworks, and best practices Experience with portfolio
optimization methodologies and decision analysis techniques
Proficiency with portfolio management tools and software (e.g.,
Planisware, Clarity, ServiceNow, Tableau) Understanding of
stage-gate processes and governance frameworks in pharmaceutical
R&D Knowledge of portfolio metrics, KPIs, and performance
measurement systems Experience with agile portfolio management and

on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic
location. The anticipated wage for this position is $156,000 -
$228,800 Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a
company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual
performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit
